Nicholas Andrew Martin Rodger , mostly cited by NAM Rodger, (born November 12, 1949 ) is a British naval historian.

Rodger is the son of a naval officer and studied at Oxford University (University College (Oxford) | University College), where he received his doctorate in 1974 ( Naval policy and cruiser design, 1865-1890 ). From 1974 to 1991 he was an archivist (Assistant Keeper) at the Public Record Office . From 1991 to 1999 he was Anderson Research Fellow at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich (London) and wrote a two-volume British naval history during this time, also supported by the Navy Records Society and the Society for Nautical Research . From 1999 he was a lecturer and later professor of naval history at theUniversity of Exeter . From 2008 he was a Senior Research Fellow at All Souls College , Oxford. In 2010 he gave the Lees Knowles Lecture at the University of Cambridge .

In 1984 he received the Julian Corbett Prize in Naval History , for Stragglers and Deserters from the Royal Navy during the Seven Years War. In 2003 he became a Fellow of the British Academy (2005) and he is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries of London . In 2005 he received the Duke of Westminster's Medal for Military Literature .

From 1976 to 1990 he was Honorary Secretary of the Navy Records Society and was one of the editors of their centenary publication.

He wrote a three-volume story of the Royal Navy , of which two volumes were published by 2013.
