The family company mainly produced and sold automation technology systems for automotive suppliers and medical technology . After insolvency and break-up, parts of the company now belong to the Düsseldorf-based MAX Automation SE as IWM Automation Bodensee GmbH and MA micro automation GmbH or to the Swiss ASIC Robotics as Pematech AG.

history

In 1956, Hans Rohwedder founded a mechanical engineering company in Markdorf for the manufacture of precision tools. In 1966 the name was changed to Rohwedder KG, and in the same year Helmut Kyburz KG became part of the company. In 1981 Joachim Rohwedder followed his father as managing director and geared the company towards automation technology . In 1985 the Rohwedder company delivered the first fully automatic assembly line for the production of video cassettes . The company went public in 2000 and changed its name to Rohwedder AG. At the same time, the company's headquarters were relocated from Markdorf to Bermatingen .

In the following years the company expanded with new locations in Radolfzell, Lörrach, Bruchsal, Markham (Canada), Suzhou (China), Victoria (Australia), Irvine (USA), Steinbrunn le Bas (France) and Oulu (Finland). On March 26, 2010, Rohwedder AG filed for insolvency proceedings and withdrew its shares from the regulated market. The Stuttgart lawyer Volker Grub was appointed insolvency administrator. As part of the process, the Hamburg-based Günther Holding took over the Bermatingen and Bruchsal locations and restructured the parts of the company. The Bermatingen location was renamed Rohwedder Macro Assembly GmbH. The Bruchsal site became Rohwedder Micro Assembly GmbH. Together with Elwema Automotive GmbH, which belongs to the holding, and AIM Micro systems GmbH, they formed the AIM Group. The Radolfzell location was transferred to Pematech AG and to ASIC Robotics AG, Burgdorf (Switzerland). The international subsidiaries were liquidated.

In 2013, the Düsseldorf-based MAX Automation AG took over the AIM group of Günther Holding and restructured the companies it contained. Rohwedder Micro Assembly GmbH was merged into MA micro automation GmbH. On March 28, 2018, Rohwedder Macro Assembly GmbH was renamed IWM Automation Bodensee GmbH and merged with IWM Automation GmbH, which is part of the group and based in Porta Westfalica .

After unsuccessful sales talks between MAX Automation AG and potential buyers, IWM Automation Bodensee GmbH will finally be closed on December 31, 2019, with the 100 employees at the Bermatingen location losing their jobs.
