Roland Gunesch (born March 25, 1944 in Daia ) is a former Romanian handball player from the German-speaking minority of the Transylvanian Saxons .

Life

His talent for handball was discovered by Hans Zultner , his sports teacher at the high school in Sighișoara . After Roland Gunesch graduated in 1964, he played for Politehnica Timișoara for 19 years .

From 1970 Gunesch played in the Romanian national handball team , which won gold medals at the handball world championships in 1970 and 1974 . At the 1972 Olympic Games , Roland Gunesch won the bronze medal with the Romanian team. Roland Gunesch threw nine goals in six matches. In 1976 he won the silver medal as part of the Romanian team. He was used in three encounters. Gunesch played a total of 174 international matches in which he scored 254 goals.

In 1983 Gunesch ended his active career, but remained for eight years until 1991 as a vice coach at Politehnica Timișoara. He has lived in Nuremberg since 1991 .
