Roland March

Roland März (* 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German art historian and curator .

From 1961 to 1966 he studied art history with Gerhard Strauss , Peter H. Feist , Willy Kurth and Karl-Heinz Clasen at the Berlin Humboldt University . From 1966 until he ended his career in 2004, he was a research assistant at the National Gallery of the State Museums in Berlin . Most recently, März worked in the New National Gallery in the field of classical modernism and the art of the GDR.

His research focus is on the fine arts of German Expressionism . In addition, he has dealt intensively with the work of the master of political photomontage , John Heartfield - a topic on which he received his doctorate in 1982. He has presented the results of his research to a wider audience in several publications.

März played a leading role in the 1986 exhibition "Expressionists. The Avant-garde in Germany 1905–1920" in the GDR National Gallery.

Remarks

  1. Due to an objection by Gertrud Heartfield, the 25,000-copy edition was almost completely crushed . There are only a few specimen copies and rough sheets. Compare with the details at the island library .
