occupation

Roland Reber's Todesrevue is a German feature film by Roland Reber and Mira Gittner from 2019 . It is based on the play by Roland Reber from 1984.

action

A ruined love affair intersects in different storylines, an old man begging for euthanasia, a live show in which the candidates are mercilessly sacrificed to the audience, a dancer who, despite self-optimization, cannot escape aging and the person in the mask, who wants to become famous at all costs. And between all of this, a corpse driver rolls his "customers" down a long corridor and makes his own unadulterated thoughts about life and death.

background

Like 24/7 The Passion of Life  (2005) at the film production company WTP International, the film was made in an “uncontrolled open space where no public funding flows, but also where no broadcaster editors exercise any normative influence”.

Like all productions of the wtp international, Roland Reber's death revue was created without funding and with the creativity and commitment of all those involved, with a small team and a diverse distribution of tasks within the ensemble. Filmed with ARRI Alexa, it will come to German cinemas in early 2020 and appear on BluRay, DVD and as a digital stream in summer 2020.

Statement from the director

“The film is based on a play that I directed on the occasion of my father's death. That was 1984. At the time, many viewers said that there was no such thing as an interactive entertainment show in which candidates could endure humiliation for a few likes. Today it exists.

'Human dignity is inviolable' - that is the central theme of the film for me, the respectful treatment of oneself and others. In life as in death. And that starts with the language, among other things. Just as we deal with words, we deal with people too. We live in a social situation that has been heated up by the media and it is high time we found a real conversation again so that we can get along better with one another. ”Roland Reber
