Roland Ries (priest)

Roland Ries (born June 23, 1930 in Remagen ; † March 27, 2016 in Trier ) was a Roman Catholic priest who was chairman of the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Trier from 1982 to 2000 .

Life

The son of the teacher Leo Ries and his wife Gerta was born in Remagen in 1930 and grew up in Nauroth / Westerwald, Saarbrücken, Trier and Misdroy / Baltic Sea. After graduating from Hindenburg-Gymnasium in Trier, he began to study law in Bonn in 1950; later further studies followed in Munich and Münster / Westphalia. In 1954 he passed the 1st state examination in law at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm / Westphalia. In the same year he began studying theology at the Trier Theological Faculty . On July 11, 1959 Bishop donated his Matthias Wehr the priesthood . Then Roland Ries was chaplain of the parish of St. Matthias in Neuwied.

In 1962 he was appointed Caritas director for the Koblenz administrative district, and six years later he became provisional director of the Caritas Association for the diocese of Trier. From 1968 to 1982 he was head of the Catholic office in Mainz, commissioner of the bishops of Rhineland-Palatinate, from 1975 to 1982 parish administrator of the parish of Undenheim-Hahnheim / Rheinhessen. From 1982 to 2000 Roland Ries was chairman of the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Trier eV, from 1983 to 2005 cathedral capitular of the high cathedral in Trier and from 1992 to 1993 president of the German hospital society (DKG).

On Maundy Thursday 2016, Roland Ries fell so seriously ill that he died on Easter Sunday 2016 at the age of 85.
