Wakolm started in the Continental Cup (COC) in 1996 . After he was able to achieve his first major successes in the 1997/98 season , he started on January 17, 1998 for the first time in the ski jumping World Cup . He jumped into the points with 16th place in his first World Cup competition in Zakopane . In his second and last World Cup a day later on the same hill he was unsuccessful with 39th place. In the overall World Cup ranking he was able to land on the 74th place with the 15 World Cup points won in the first competition. He finished the Continental Cup season in 13th place overall. In the following years, however, there were no further successes, so that he ended his active ski jumping career after the 2001/02 season.
