The ship type is a further development of the two smaller shipyard types RW 700 and RW 750 . In 2004 it was commissioned by six German shipping companies in 19 units. The first ship was delivered in 2006. Although there were even more ships in the shipyard's order book in the meantime, 19 ships of this type were built (as of June 2013).
The new type of ship is 2.80 meters wider than the predecessor types RW 700 and RW 750. The ships with the deckhouse arranged aft are designed as feeder ships , primarily for European container transport, but are also used in other regions. The capacity is 974 TEU , of which 218 TEU can be stowed in the three holds and a further 756 on deck. The ship type is equipped both in the hold and on deck for the transport of different container sizes, such as 20, 30, 40 or 45 foot containers. In addition, dangerous goods and refrigerated containers can be transported. There are 170 connections for the latter. Some of the ships have a high ice class and some units are equipped with two electro-hydraulic ship cranes with a capacity of 45 tons each, attached to the port side .
The ships are powered by a four-stroke MaK 9 M43C diesel engine built by Caterpillar Motoren Rostock with an output of around 8000 kW (later units 8400 kW). The motor acts on a controllable pitch propeller and enables a speed of around 18 knots. A shaft generator with 1495 kVA and two auxiliary diesel generators 2 × 730 kVA (or 2 × 546 kVA) and a port / emergency generator with 546 kVA are used to generate electricity . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
Individual chambers are available to accommodate the crew of up to 19 people .
