Rolf-Peter Calliess

Rolf-Peter Calliess (born March 21, 1935 in Berlin ; † December 31, 2018 ) was a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

Calliess studied law, graduating in 1959 in Berlin. In his second degree he studied Protestant theology, philosophy and sociology until 1960. With the dissertation property as an institution. A study on the theological and anthropological justification of law , he was in 1961 at the Free University of Berlin Dr. phil. PhD. He was a research assistant and worked in church offices. In 1973 he completed his habilitation at Bielefeld University . From 1974 he taught criminal law, criminal procedure law, penal law and legal theory at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover .

In 1989, in connection with the death penalty, he called on NATO military courts on German territory to “ensure that legal sovereignty within the scope of the Basic Law is fully enforced”. In 2005, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was honored with a colloquium on “Criminal law as concrete constitutional law” at the University of Hanover. His commentary on the Prison Act was published in its 11th edition in 2008.

The legal scholars Christian Calliess and Gralf-Peter Calliess are two of his sons.
