Rolf Aberer (* 1949 in Hohenems ) is an Austrian composer and musician . He is a Toni Russ Prize winner and the father of Lisa Aberer .

education

Rolf Aberer attended elementary school and the secondary school in Dornbirn, where he graduated from high school in 1968 . This was followed by two years of studies at the University and Conservatory of Innsbruck in the subjects of geography and music, then five years of studies at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern (together with Benny Gleeson) with Isla Eckinger (bass), Vince Benedetti , Axel Jungbluth , Heinz Bigler (Theory, ear training, arrangement, composition), Billy Brooks (rhythm). In 1978 he obtained his diploma.

Musical career

Aberer played with Benny Gleeson and Reinhold Bilgeri in the band "Wanted". He led the "ROLF A. Band", which consisted of 10 musicians from Austria and Switzerland. Own formations were "And Mona Lisa Smiles", "Glasshouse", "Good Morning", "GSBand", "Suspended Four" and the "Rolf Aberer Quartet" (with musicians from the Swiss Jazz School Bern). Aberer played with "Mainstream revisited", with the "Big Band Club Dornbirn" and "Andreys Gow Quartet" and was a member of the Swiss entertainment orchestra "SUO" in 1988/89 under the direction of Reto Parolari.

Numerous vocal titles for 2 LPs and 3 singles were created in collaboration with Gerte Sedlmayr.

Further musical activities included productions for the ORF regional studio Vorarlberg, music for radio plays by Peter Klein , Michael Köhlmeier and Hubert Dragaschnig, as well as collaborations with other regional artists and ensembles such as the Vorarlberg Youth Symphony Orchestra, “Stemmeisen und Zündschnur” and “Fleisch & Fleisch”.

In 1976 Aberer played a key role in founding the jazz seminar in Dornbirn, which he also directed until 2015.

Other activities and teaching

Aberer was a freelancer at ORF (jazz / rock music recording manager). From 1989 to 2015 he taught harmony, aural training, arrangement, improvisation and electric bass at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory . In the winter semester 1997/98 he had a teaching position at the media workshop of the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences . In 2007 he was a lecturer at the jazz workshop in Andelsbuch.
