Rolf Böhlig

Rolf Böhlig (born April 6, 1904 in Hamburg ; † May 23, 1979 there ) was a Hamburg painter .

Life

Böhlig learned to chemograph and taught as a teacher at the Hamburg vocational school for commercial advertising and fashion. From 1922 to 1927 Böhlig studied at the State Art School, today's University of Fine Arts, Hamburg . After completing his studies, Böhlig ran a studio for advertising graphics together with Walter Siebelist (1904–1978) for a short time. From 1930 to 1939 he worked as a press illustrator for the Hamburger Anzeiger . He was also a member of the Hamburg Artists 'Association from 1832 and the Hamburg Artists' Association .

Böhlig found his motifs in the port of Hamburg and in the northern German landscapes. He painted almost exclusively outdoors and captured everyday moments in the lives of working people. Rolf Böhlig is considered a representative of plein airism . The art historian Maike Bruhns places Böhlig among the most popular artists of Hamburg's post-war period. Pictures by Rolf Böhlig can be found in private and public collections, including the Hamburger Kunsthalle , Gottorf Castle and the Altona Museum .
