Rolf Gerlach (Economist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rolf Heinrich Gerlach (born October 2, 1953 in Witten ) is a German economist .

Life

Gerlach completed an apprenticeship as a banker at a savings bank from 1969 to 1972. This was followed by a degree in economics from 1974 to 1979. In March 1982, he graduated as Dr. rer. pole.

From 1990 Gerlach was initially managing director of the Savings Bank Association Westphalia-Lippe (SVWL) . From April 1995 to March 2017 he was president of the association. His successor is Liane Buchholz , who was previously General Manager of the Association of German Public Banks (VÖB).

During his active time, Gerlach was considered to be one of the most authoritative, but also most contentious, top Sparkasse officials and an in-depth knowledge of the German savings bank organization. During his tenure, the Sparkasse IT service providers merged to form Finanz Informatik (FI) , of which he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board from August 2008 to the end of March 2017.

From 2004 to 2007 Gerlach was also chairman of the supervisory board of WestLB , which was wound up in 2012. In the summer of 2013, an investigative committee of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament began its work to review the background to the decline of WestLB and to examine conduct relevant to criminal law. Gerlach was also heard as a witness as part of the ongoing investigation.

In 2012, rumors about the allegedly planned sale of the Provinzial NordWest to the Munich Allianz insurance company Gerlach brought much criticism.
