Rolf Otto Lahr
Rolf Otto Lahr (born November 6, 1908 in Marienwerder ; † September 14, 1985 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat .
Life
After graduating from the Arndt-Gymnasium in Berlin-Dahlem , Lahr studied law in Berlin, Gießen and Freiburg and in 1934 became a court assessor in the Reich Ministry of Economics . During his studies he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Berlin (1927) and Teutonia Gießen . Lahr joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1933 and also became a member of the SA in 1933 . After participating in the Second World War as a soldier and doing various jobs, he first joined the trade department of the Federal Ministry of Economics in 1949 . In 1953 he came to the Foreign Office in Bonn.
In 1955, as head of the delegation for the Franco-German Saar negotiations, he played a major role in the negotiations on the integration of the Saarland into the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1957/58 he was the chief negotiator in the negotiations on the first trade and consular agreement with the USSR and the repatriation of German nationals in the Soviet Union. After a brief assignment as ambassador to the EEC / EURATOM (1961), he was appointed State Secretary in the Foreign Office in the same year. In this role he was involved in efforts to prevent planned lectures by the historian Fritz Fischer in the USA.
In 1969 Lahr became the German ambassador in Rome. He held this post until his retirement in January 1974. Until the end of that year, he also remained the German representative at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
