Rolf Linnenkamp

Rolf Linnenkamp (born August 14, 1925 in Dortmund ; † May 31, 2003 in Munich ) was a German art historian. He was editor-in-chief and co-editor of Kindler's painting dictionary .

Life

Linnenkamp began to study art history, archeology, philosophy and sociology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1950 he became a member of the Corps Franconia Jena, which was then based in Frankfurt . As an inactive , he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . With a doctoral thesis on Aristide Maillol , he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1957/58 he worked at the Hamburger Kunsthalle , where his Sunday morning tours were very popular.

Fascinated by the fundamental laws of mathematics, he mainly dealt with classical proportions. From the one-dimensional Fibonacci sequence he developed the golden ratio of the surface and in 1961 the golden ratio of the cube . The model is located in the Namibia Scientific Society in Windhoek. After studying at the Art History Institute in Florence , Linnenkamp returned to Munich in 1960, where he created a standard work on the history of painting from 1961 to 1968 as editor-in-chief and co-editor of Kindler's painting encyclopedia . From 1974 to 1979 he published the Heynes Stilkunde paperback series, which has been out of print for decades , in which he himself took over the volumes Die Gründerzeit (1976) and Die Schlösser und Projekte Ludwigs II. (1977). As editor-in-chief of the Pantheon, he published articles on Crete in 1981 ( Crete's Minoan world of gods , Crete's ancient history from Minos to Christos ).
