Rolf Ritschard (born February 13, 1944 in Luterbach ; † January 9, 2007 in Sankt Niklaus ) was a Swiss politician . He belonged to the Social Democratic Party and was government councilor of the canton of Solothurn from 1988 to 2005 .

Rolf Ritschard was the son of Federal Councilor Willi Ritschard . He studied business administration and graduated with a licentiate . He then worked as an assistant at the Business Administration Institute at the University of Bern .

He then worked for the Canton of Solothurn for thirty years. In 1975 he became an economist in the economics department. In 1988 he was elected to the government council of the canton of Solothurn. He took over the departments of the Interior, Police and Medical, which in 1996 were merged into the Department of the Interior. In 1992, 1997 and 2002 he headed the Solothurn government as Landammann . On July 31, 2005, he resigned from the government council.

Like his father, Rolf Ritschard died completely unexpectedly on a walk. He suffered a heart attack.
