Roman Sikorski

Roman Sikorski (born July 11, 1920 in Mszczonów , Poland ; † September 12, 1983 in Warsaw , Poland) was a Polish mathematician.

Life

Roman Sikorski studied at the University of Warsaw from 1937 . After studying in Zurich from 1946 to 1947, he received his doctorate in 1948 under Andrzej Mostowski . Since 1949 Roman Sikorski conducted research at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). In 1952 he was appointed associate professor at Warsaw University and in 1955 full professor. In 1962 he became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and was there director of the Institute of Mathematics from 1965 to 1977.

Roman Sikorski dealt with analysis , mathematical logic , algebra and topology . The Rasiowa-Sikorski lemma is associated with his name.
