Romaricus Flugi from Aspermont

Romaricus Flugi von Aspermont OSB (born February 10, 1821 in Naples , † July 3, 1904 in Rome ) was Abbot Ordinary of Monaco and Abbot General of the Congregation of Subiaco .

Life

Flugi came from an aristocratic family in Graubünden , but was born in Naples, where his father Nikolaus Flugi von Aspermont was an officer during the Bourbon rule. He entered the Subiaco Monastery in 1863, became a priest in 1865, and in 1868 by Pope Pius IX. Appointed Private Abbot of the Exemte Abbey of Saints-Nicholas-et-Benoît for the territory of the Principality of Monaco . In this capacity he took part in the First Vatican Council as a council father . Since he did not get along with the prince, he resigned his office in 1871 and first went back to Subiaco, after its abolition by the Italian government to relatives in Switzerland .

In 1880 the general chapter of the Congregation of Subiaco elected him procurator . In 1881 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . for Titularabt of Santa Maria di Torrechiara (in Parma ). In 1888 he was confirmed in his office and in 1890 he was elected Abbot General of the Congregation to succeed the late Jordan Ballsieper . In 1896 he rejected re-election because of his age and took over the office of General Procurator, for which he was re-elected in 1900. In the last few years he was barely able to exercise his office due to illness, he died in 1904 in Sant'Ambrogio in Rome and was buried on Ager Verano .
