Jordan Ballsieper

Jordan Ballsieper OSB (born November 28, 1835 in Dahlerau as Eduard Ballsieper , † March 1, 1890 in Subiaco ) was a German Benedictine and mission bishop in Bangladesh and Abbot General of the Congregation of Subiaco .

Life

Eduard Ballsieper came after military service in 1858 as a novice in the Abbey Subiaco and studied at the College of Sant'Ambrogio in Rome theology. After ordination in 1864 and his doctorate, he was there for ten years as an editor working (1865-1875), in addition to the dissolution of the Papal States military chaplain of the Papal troops. In 1876 he went to Affligem priory in Belgium as a visitor to the Flemish monasteries .

In April 1878 by Pope Pius IX. Appointed Vicar Apostolic for East Bengal (today Archdiocese of Dhaka , Bangladesh ) and ordained titular bishop of Tanasia , he worked there for seven years, but had to return to Affligem in 1885 for health reasons and was officially dismissed from his post in 1886/87. In 1888 the General Chapter of the Congregation of Subiaco elected him Abbot General and at the same time abbot of the Subiaco family monastery. Ballsieper died two years later in Subiaco.
