Romas Pakalnis

Romas Pakalnis (born January 4, 1941 in Kirkliai , Utena Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian ecologist and professor .

Life

In 1958 Pakalnis graduated from the forest technical college in Vilnius and in 1963 a diploma study at the faculty of forestry of the Lietuvos žemės ūkio akademija . In 1963 he worked as a forest technician in Šeduva near Radviliškis , from 1964 district forester of Radviloniai . In 1966 he worked in the Jonava Forestry Department . From 1966 to 1969 he did his doctorate at the Institute of Botany at the Lietuvos mokslų akademija and in 1971 he became a candidate in biology . From 1970 he worked at the Institute of Botany, from 1984 to 1989 as deputy director and from 1989 as director. Since 2001 he has been a professor at the VPU .

Since 1997 he has been President of the Eugenija Šimkūnaitė Foundation.

Pakalnis is a widower. His wife Alfonsa Kulbytė-Pakalnienė (1941–2003) was a forest protection engineer at the Jonava Forestry Office from 1966 to 1973 . His son Mindaugas Pakalnis (* 1967 in Jonava) is an urban architect and has headed the urban development department of the municipality of Vilnius since 2016 . His second son Vytautas Pakalnis (1972-2004) was a painter and puppet theater actor. His third son was Gediminas Pakalnis (1976-1993).
