Romeo Romei (S 529) is the fourth class 212 A submarine built for the Italian Navy .

history

Romeo Romei is the second boat in the second Italian batch of the class, which is also called the “Todaro class” in Italy after the first boat Salvatore Todaro (S 526) . The boat Romeo Romei was laid down on September 9, 2010 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano near La Spezia as part of a German-Italian joint project . The launch took place on July 4, 2015, the handover to the Navy on May 11, 2017.

The home port of the boat Romeo Romei is Taranto .

Naming

The boat is named after the corvette captain and submarine commander Romeo Romei, who was born in Herceg Novi ( Castelnuovo in Italian ) on August 14, 1906 , and who fell near Stromboli on March 31, 1941 . An Italian Tang-class submarine was named after Romeo Romei from 1974 to 1988.
