Romeu Brigenti

Romeu Brigenti (born October 2, 1916 in Juiz de Fora , State of Minas Gerais , Brazil ; † March 10, 2008 in São Cristóvão, Rio de Janeiro ) was Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro .

Life

Romeu Brigenti was ordained a priest on December 8, 1941 . After teaching at the seminary in Rio Comprido for four years , he went to pastoral care in São Sebastião de Bento Ribeiro, then in São Cosme e São Damião near Andaraí, a district of Rio de Janeiro. In 1976 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of northern Rio de Janeiro.

In 1979 he was named titular bishop of Illici by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro . He received his episcopal consecration on October 12, 1979, the Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Cardinal Eugênio de Araújo Sales ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Porto Alegre Alfredo Vicente Cardinal Scherer and the Bishop of Petrópolis Manoel Pedro da Cunha Cintra . His motto was Pro Fratribus Superimpendar .

In 2001, his resignation was granted by John Paul II.

He died at the Quinta D'Or Hospital in São Cristóvão in the north of Rio de Janeiro and was in the crypt of the cathedral buried Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro.
