Ron Geaves (born June 7, 1948 ) is a former professor of religious studies at Hope University Liverpool , England.

Life

Geaves received his PhD from the University of Leeds on the subject of "Education for Muslims in England". He became known for his expertise in the adaptation and transmigration of religions to the West, especially Islam , Sikhism and Hinduism . He is particularly interested in the spiritual manifestation of Islam and Indian traditions.

He has taught in a number of subject-related areas including Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, the sociology and anthropology of religions, Judaism, Christianity and the ancient religions.

He was chairman and program director for religious studies at the University of Chester in England and head of the same department at the University of Chichester .

David Barrett, who works for INFORM, recommended that he combine his experience on the subject of Prem Rawat (Geaves is considered to be one of his first western students) with his academic background in order to provide insight into this movement.

In 2006, Geaves told dignitaries and members of the Muslim Community of North West England that the July 7, 2005 bombings in London had to be seen in the context of the long history of English Muslim protest. Calling these attacks simply terrorism only demonizes those involved and does not lead to any further understanding of cause and motivation. This statement sparked heated controversy with some other speakers. He replied that there was no point in demonizing "the terrorism of the world" as such; The horrors of the bombings in Northern Ireland and the terrorism of that time could also be seen as an extreme form of protest.

Ron Geaves is currently a board member of the Muslims in Britain research network.

In 2013 he retired.

In 2007 he published "Study of Religion" in collaboration with George Chryssides from Wolverhampton University and in 2006 "Understanding Religion" in collaboration with Theodore Gabriel from Gloucester University .
