Ronald William Herbert "Ron" Powell (born December 2, 1929 in Knighton , † May 25, 1992 in Rossall ) was a Welsh football player who completed more than 500 professional games between 1948 and 1964 as a goalkeeper.

Life

He started playing soccer in his hometown side Knighton Town. In November 1948 he moved to Manchester City, where he made his league debut the following season. However, he played only 13 first-team games in four years. He played his games in the short time between the resignation of Frank Swift and the arrival of Bert Trautmann . In 1952 he moved to Chesterfield FC, where he only missed two league games and completed a total of 508 games over the next twelve years.

He ended his active career in December 1964 after a car accident in which his teammates Doug Wragg and Peter Stringfellow were seriously injured and his teammate Ralph Hunt was fatally injured.
