Ron William Rautio (born May 9, 1968 in Port Arthur , † January 12, 2005 in Thunder Bay ) was a Canadian ski jumper .

Career

Rautio made his international debut at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol . In the individual jumping on the normal hill he landed 65th and last place after jumps on 68 and 64 meters.

At the Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 30, 1986 , but could not prevail in any of the competitions. The best individual result was 83rd place in the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf . In the overall ranking, Rautio reached 94th place. Also in the following Four Hills Tournament 1987/88 he could only improve insignificantly. On the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen he achieved the best individual tour result of his career with 66th place. In the overall standings he was 84th at the end of the tour.

At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary he was part of the extended squad, but was not used as a substitute.

Rautio died unexpectedly at his Thunder Bay home, aged just 36.
