Ronald Herring

Ronald J. Herring (* 1947 ) is an American political scientist .

Live and act

Herring studied economics at the University of Texas at Austin from 1965 to 1969 . An MA (1971) and a Ph.D. (1976) in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison . From 1977 to 1991 he taught at Northwestern University , since 1991 he has been a professor at Cornell University . From 1996 to 2002 he was Director of the Einaudi Center at Cornell University and John S. Knight Professor of International Studies.

Herring has mainly done research in and on South Asia . His research areas are agricultural political economy and reform, ethnicity and conflict, political ecology and development, and social conflicts around science and green genetic engineering . He was chairman of Cornell's Department of Government and executive director of Title VI National Resource Center for South Asia.
