history
In the High Middle Ages, Roncaglia was the scene of several court and imperial days of the Holy Roman Empire :
- 1075: Count Eberhard, sent to Italy by Heinrich IV, holds a meeting on the Roncaglian Fields ( Regesta Imperii III, 2,3 n.760).
- 1132: Lothar III. meets with Pope Innocent II and discusses the state of the kingdom and the church at a general court day (RI IV, 1,1 n. 319).
- 1136: Lothar III. celebrates All Saints' Day and holds a court day on which he proclaims laws (RI IV, 1.1 n. 527, RI IV, 1.1 n. 528, RI IV, 1.2 n. 70).
- 1154: Frederick I holds a court day attended by numerous princes and consuls and greats from almost all cities (RI IV, 2.1 n. 253).
- 1158: Frederick I holds a large diet in Roncaglia to proclaim the statutes of peace and to give instructions to the justified of the empire (RI IV, 2.2 n. 605). The laws of Roncaglia , including the Constitutio de regalibus , are promulgated at this Diet .
- 1159: Frederick I celebrates the previously popular farm day in Roncaglia with his troops (RI IV, 2.2 n. D707).
