Ronnie Ball

Ronald "Ronnie" Ball (born December 22, 1927 in Birmingham , England , † 1984 in New York City ) was a British jazz pianist of cool jazz . He played with Lennie Tristano , Art Pepper and Lee Konitz .

Live and act

At fifteen, Ronnie Ball played in local bands and moved to London in 1948. After working together and making recordings with various English jazz groups, u. a. with Tony Kinsey , Ronnie Scott and Victor Feldman , played ball on Cunard's ocean liners between Southampton and New York. He then moved to the USA in 1952, studied with cool jazz trailblazer Lennie Tristano and played with Chuck Wayne in 1952 and Lee Konitz in 1953-55. Ball then went to California and played there with Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and Art Pepper from 1956-57 ; 1956 with Kai Winding / JJ Johnson . In 1957, Ronnie Ball also had his own trio with Red Mitchell and Dennis Budimir . He then worked with Buddy Rich and in 1958 with Kai Winding in 1958, from the end of 1958 in Gene Krupa's Quartet, with whom he also came to Europe in 1959. Ball has also made records with Ted Brown and under his own name (1955). In the early 1960s he was still playing in recordings with Chris Connor ; then he disappeared from the jazz scene.
