Ronny Jordan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ronny Jordan (born November 29, 1962 in London as Ronald Laurence Albert Simpson , † January 13, 2014 ) was a British jazz guitarist, especially smooth jazz and acid jazz .

Live and act

Jordan, the son of a Jamaican clergyman, was influenced by gospel music and was a self-taught musician . He attracted attention in London clubs as a companion for vocalists. His first album Antidote (1991/92) contained a cover version of So What , which was an international hit; Guru already played on his next album The Quiet Revolution , which was again very successful because of its version of Wes Montgomery's Mr. Walker . Conversely, Jordan was involved in his album Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 (1993) and went on tour with the Jazzmatazz project. He also made extensive world tours with his own formation and worked with DJ Krush .

In contrast to other pioneers of acid jazz, Jordan was able to develop an independent profile beyond the short-lived trend. In 2010 he was touring internationally with his organ trio (with organist Melvin Davis and drummer Dave Moore).

Others

His song "The Jackal" was used in the television series "The West Wing - In the Center of Power" (in part 18 of the first season, in which Allison Janney as CJ Cregg moves his lips in sync with the song).
