Rorgon I. (Maine)

Rorgon I. , also called Rorico or Rorich (* around 770 ; † June 16, 839 ) was a Neustrian nobleman, Count of Rennes and Maine .

Life

Rorgon was the son of Gauzlin I, Lord of Maine, and his wife Adeltrude. He came to the court of Charlemagne around 800 and had a relationship with his daughter Rotrud (775–810), with whom he probably had two illegitimate children:

He later married an otherwise unknown Bilchilde, with whom he had other children:

Louis the Pious enfeoffed him in 819 with the County of Rennes. In 824 he founded the Abbey of Saint-Maur de Glanfeuil . He became Earl of Maine in 832.

The family of the first earls of Maine is named after him Rorgonids .
