Rorya is a district in northern Tanzania in the Mara region with the administrative center in Ingri Juu . The district is bordered to the north by Kenya , on the east by the district Tarime , on the south by the districts Butiama and Musoma and in the west over the Lake Victoria in Uganda .

Rorya has an area of 9,345 square kilometers and around a quarter of a million inhabitants (as of 2012). The district is located on the east bank of Lake Victoria, more than three quarters of the area is accounted for by the lake. The land area of 2093 square kilometers is located at an altitude of 800 to 1200 meters above sea level. The climate is tropical, Aw according to the effective climate classification . The annual rainfall is between 700 and 1200 millimeters. There are two rainy seasons. The autumn rains last from October to December, while smaller showers fall from March to June. The average temperature is between 14 and 30 degrees Celsius, with February being the warmest and July being the coolest.

The district of Rorya was established in 2007 by dividing the district of Tarime.

populationMost of the inhabitants of Rorya belong to the Luo and Kurya ethnic groups . The population rose from 217,176 in 2002 to 265,241 in the 2012 census. This corresponds to an annual growth of two percent. In 2012, over sixty percent of those over the age of five spoke Swahili and eight percent spoke English and Swahili. - Education: There are 128 primary schools in the district, eight of which are privately owned. A total of around 75,000 students were taught by 1,400 teachers in these schools in 2016. This means that there were 53 students for one teacher. In the 32 secondary schools, the teacher-student ratio was 1:15. There is a nursing school in Shirate.
- Health: There are three hospitals, six health centers, 32 pharmacies and six AIDS advice centers in Rorya for the medical care of the population (as of 2016).
- Water: Around 45 percent of the population have access to safe and clean water (as of 2016).
Economy and InfrastructureThe main economic activity in the district is agriculture, which employs over ninety percent of the population. There are also fishing (three percent) and small businesses (five percent).

A district council is elected every 5 years in the district. The current chairman is Albert Machiwa (as of 2020).
Around 97 percent of the income comes from central government transfer payments. Local revenues are made up of local taxes, fees, fines, penalties and licenses. Almost half of the expenditure goes to the education sector, thirteen percent to the health system and eight percent to the water supply.Attractions
- Lake Victoria: Rorya has a share of the largest lake in Africa with almost 70,000 square kilometers. The lake is at an altitude of more than 1000 meters above sea level. It is home to more than 200 species of fish, of which the tilapia is the best known.

- Anglican Church : Rorya is the name of a diocese of the Anglican Church in Tanzania. The seat of the bishop is in Musoma.
