Rosa Schweninger
Rosa Schweninger (born February 11, 1848 in Vienna ; † October 17, 1918 there ) was an Austrian painter.
Life
Rosa Schweninger came from a Viennese family of artists, she was the daughter of the painter Carl Schweninger the Elder (1818–1887) and sister of the painter Carl Schweninger the Younger (1854–1903). After her first painting lessons with her father, she studied painting from 1869 to 1871 at the kk Kunstgewerbeschule of the kk Österreichisches Museum für Kunst und Industrie under Friedrich Sturm (1822–1898). She mainly painted portraits and flower still lifes.
Her pictures were exhibited at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
She portrayed the Sibiu composer Bertha von Brukenthal , who dedicated her Zwei Lieder, op.20 , to her . The portrait of Bertha von Brukenthal is in the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu , Romania .
