Rosanna & Zélia

Rosanna & Zélia were a Brazilian women duo that operated from Germany for a long time and gained popularity particularly in Europe: the singer Rosanna Tavares, who died in 2006, and the guitarist Zélia Fonseca . Percussionist Angela Frontera usually played on records and in concerts .

history

Rosanna and Zélia met in 1974 at the school in Itaúna in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in a music and theater group. This group existed for 5 years, then the ways parted. In the mid-1980s, the two found each other again, played music and came to Portugal at the invitation of musicians who were friends. Because of their openness and curiosity, a Finnish journalist brought them to Finland. They finally came to Frankfurt am Main via France , where they have lived ever since. You have worked with many musicians from the Latin American and jazz scene, including Dino Saluzzi , Howard Levy , Katharina Franck , Shantel and Ivan Santos. Every year they traveled to Brazil to visit their home town of Minas Gerais and to tour concerts.

Her often onomatopoeic, stylistically independent Música Popular Brasileira is shaped by bossa nova and jazz , with Portuguese, Afro-Brazilian and Indian elements. They wrote most of their pieces themselves, but they have also included pieces by Djavan , Tom Jobim , João Bosco and Chico Buarque in their program.
