Rose Gray

Rose Gray , MBE (born January 28, 1939 as Clemency Anne Rosemary Swann in Bedford , † February 28, 2010 in Marylebone ) was a British cook and cookbook author. Together with Ruth Rogers , she founded the River Café in London in 1987 . She received a Michelin star for this in 1998 . Jamie Oliver's career also began there . Rose Gray also influenced other prominent chefs such as Theo Randall and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall .

Life

Her father died before she was born. Her mother, Elizabeth Anne Lawrence, was the daughter of Sir William Lawrence, 3rd Baronet . Rose studied art at Guildford College of Art. Her career as a cook began in 1985 at Nell's Club, an Italian restaurant in Manhattan . In 1961 (or 1962) she married Michael Selby Gray, with whom she had three children. She had another son, Dante MacIlwaine Gray, in 1973 with her partner David Robin MacIlwaine, whom she married in 2004. In 2001, Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died at her home in Marylebone, London.
