Rosemarie Simmen (born September 10, 1938 in Zurich as Rosemarie Messmer, resident in Realp , Solothurn and Zurich) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Life

Simmen grew up in Zurich and graduated from the ETH Zurich , a pharmaceutical studies , she in 1964 with the state examination as a pharmacist graduated. She worked as an office pharmacist in German-speaking Switzerland, in Geneva and Berlin.

In 1981 she was elected to the Constitutional Council of the Canton of Solothurn for the CVP , and in 1983 to the Solothurn Cantonal Council . In 1987 she was elected to the Council of States for the canton of Solothurn . She held this mandate until 1999, when she decided not to run again. During her time as a Councilor of States, she was temporarily President of the Commission for Economy and Taxes, Vice-President of the Foreign Affairs Commission, Member of the Commission for Science, Education and Culture and the Commission for Social Security and Health, and President of the Swiss delegation to the Interparliamentary Union .

From 1990 to 1997 she was president of the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia . From 1999 to 2001 she was President of the Federal Commission for Foreigners . She also presided over the Swiss Library Commission.
