Rosemarie Wilcken (* 16th June 1947 in Wismar as Rosemarie Schellhase ) is a German doctor and politician ( SPD ). From 1990 to 2010 she was the first female mayor in von Wismar. From the beginning of 2011 to 2014 she was chairwoman of the board of the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD). She is now a member of the new DSD Foundation Board.

Life

Rosemarie Wilcken was born as the daughter of the Protestant preacher of the regional church community , Schellhase. From 1966 she studied human medicine and received her doctorate in 1983. Until 1990 she practiced as a general practitioner and pediatrician. She is the mother of two grown daughters.

Political activity

In the course of the change , Rosemarie Wilcken joined the SPD and was nominated by her party as mayor candidate in 1990 and elected on May 30, 1990. After the end of the term of office, she ran again for the mayor's office in Wismar in 2002 and was re-elected with 79.1 percent of the votes. The focus of her political work was the promotion of the expansion of the Hanseatic city of Wismar as a business and infrastructure location. Her term ended on July 17, 2010.

In addition to her work in numerous other regional and supraregional bodies, Rosemarie Wilcken is Deputy President of the German Association of Cities , a member of the administrative board of the Federal Employment Agency , the administrative board of the NDR (temporarily its chairman) and the so-called Rürup Commission .

Voluntary work

Already a member of the board of the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 1997 , Rosemarie Wilcken took over the position of chairman of the board of this foundation from Gottfried Kiesow in early 2011 . As part of this office, Rosemarie Wilcken also intervenes in current debates. In April 2013, for example, she called on her party colleague and Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia , Hannelore Kraft , in an open letter to refrain from planned cuts in the state budget. "The shortening and realignment of the funding policy in North Rhine-Westphalia could have devastating effects on the preservation of the monument inventory in the state, which has already been greatly reduced due to war losses, and would send the wrong signal to the many citizens involved in monument protection," said Wilcken.

Wilcken is chairman of the supervisory board of the German TV lottery and chairman of the board of the organization, which is closely related to the organization of the German aid organization. For the latter position she was named by the Presidium of the German Association of Cities.
