Rosemary Popa

Rosemary Popa (born December 30, 1991 in Melbourne ) is an Australian rower who competed for the United States until 2014 . In 2019 she finished second in the eighth championship .

Athletic career

Rosemary Popa started rowing in 2005. At the U23 World Championships in 2011, she finished seventh with the American four-four, and the following year she was eighth in the two without a helmsman . She made her last appearance for the United States in the 2014 Rowing World Cup , when she finished seventh in the two-man category in Sydney.

The 1.80 m tall Popa has been rowing for her native Australia since 2015. At the 2015 World Championships , she finished eighth with the Australian eighth. After that, Popa concentrated on studying sociology at the University of California, Berkeley . After graduating, she returned to the Australian national rowing team in late 2017. In 2018 she won the World Cup regattas in Linz and Lucerne with Lucy Stephan , Sarah Hawe and Molly Goodman in a four without a helmsman . For the 2018 World Championships, Popa moved into eighth position. With Leah Saunders , Georgina Gotch , Rosemary Popa, Georgina Rowe , Annabelle McIntyre , Ciona Wilson , Jacinta Edmunds , Emma Fessey and helmsman James Rook , the Australian eighth behind the boat from the United States and the Canadians won bronze at the World Championships in Plovdiv . In 2019, the Australians won the World Cup in Poznan and finished second behind the New Zealanders in Rotterdam. In the line-up of Leah Saunders, Jacinta Edmunds, Bronwyn Cox , Georgina Rowe, Rosemary Popa, Annabelle McIntyre, Jessica Morrison , Molly Goodman and James Rook, the Australians won silver at the World Championships in Linz / Ottensheim behind New Zealand and ahead of the boat from the United States .

Rosemary Popa is the daughter of Susan Chapman- Popa and Ion Popa , who both won a medal in rowing at the 1984 Olympic Games for Australia.
