history
Rosendorf was first mentioned in documents in 1459 with the name Sasseraw , and in 1474 the place name was Scheysendorf . The original place name was based on a Sorbian derision for a poor settlement. It was renamed around 1540, and in 1546 the place is mentioned as Roßendorf .
In the first half of the 20th century, Ilse Bergbau-AG developed Rosendorf as a lignite mining area. On July 1, 1950, the community of Rosendorf was incorporated into Sorno . Rosendorf and Sorno had to give way to the Sedlitz opencast mine , and the site was finally devastated by 1972.
