Ross Martin (born May 16, 1943 in Bega , † July 2, 2011 in Sydney ) was an Australian cross-country skier .

Career

Martin started as the fourth Australian cross-country skier at the Olympic Winter Games . At the 1968 Games in Grenoble , he finished 60th in an individual race over 15 km. He also achieved this rank over 30 km.

Martin won seven titles at Australian championships and was five times champion of New South Wales. He was nominated by the Australian Ski Association for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , but was not taken into account when the Australian Olympic Committee was selected.

After retiring from his career, he took over Dominie , an education company founded by his father in 1951, in the 1970s .

In 2011, Martin died in a bicycle accident while on a trip with the Hunter Valley Veterans' Club .

Private

Martin was the nephew of cross-country skier Bruce Haslingden and married the speed skater Toy Dorgan . Their son Boyd Martin competed in the 2012 Summer Games in London in the riding .
