Roswitha Krause

Roswitha Krause (born November 3, 1949 in Dahme / Mark ) is a German swimmer and handball player . She competed for the GDR and won Olympic medals in both sports.

Roswitha Krause began swimming as a child and attended a children's and youth sports school at the age of eleven . In 1968 she took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City and won the silver medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. She started playing handball at the age of 20, originally to improve her fitness for swimming. In 1971 she gave up swimming and concentrated on handball. In the same year Krause joined the first team at TSC Berlin . With this she won in 1977 and 1979, the UEFA Cup Winners 'Cup and the 1978 European Champion Clubs' Cup . In 1973 she was appointed to the GDR national team for the first time and became the handball world champion with them in 1975 and 1978 . At the 1976 Olympic Games she won the silver medal with the team, followed by a bronze medal at the 1980 Games .

Roswitha Krause now teaches swimming and handball at the Humboldt University in Berlin .
