The 250-year-old Trotte was extensively restored and rebuilt in 2015/2016. The centuries-old monastery bricks were temporarily stored during the renovation and reused. The natural stone walls and the entire beam construction were preserved in their original state. Today the building serves as an event location , office space and depot for a catering company.

architecture

What is striking about this wide, free-standing gable building with the slightly bent gable roof is its stable proportions. Two gable facades visible from afar, one completely bricked and without a canopy, the other with a clearly designed half-timbered gable field and a wide canopy, are part of the decoration of this massive stone house. The largely preserved five-part division of the ground floor with no basement points to the original use with two trott works.

location

The "Rote Trotte" is located in the "Grafenstein", at the southern foot of the " Brüelberg " near the Brühlberg tower . The building, in almost flat terrain (slightly inclined slope foot), used to be at the foot of the vineyards along the «Brüelberg», above the Töss bank. Today it is on the connecting road Wülflingen - Töss .

Viticulture in Wülflingen - Töss

All south exposed slopes in the municipality of Wülflingen were still planted with vines in the 18th century . Field names and street names such as “Herrenrebenweg”, “Winzerstrasse”, “Weinbergstrasse” or “Rebenweg” as well as some trotting buildings are reminiscent of the time when there were at the foot of the “ Wolfensberg ”, the “ Brüelberg ” and in the area of “Taggenberg” and “Sporrer “Expanded large vineyards. The work in the vines was also subject to Flurzwang. The village superiors still determined in 1776 which working days could be worked in the vineyard from one in the afternoon until Vespers.
