Red urban

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Red Urban is a white white wine variety. Despite the slightly reddish colored grapes, the grape variety, like Gewürztraminer or Pinot Gris, is one of the white varieties. Like the Blue Urban, the variety used to be found in a mixed set with other grape varieties. Today the red Urban is an absolute rarity.

A relationship to the variety Blauer Urban has not been proven.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy with white wool, with a crimson tinge. The young leaves are hairy and of a yellowish color.
  • The medium-sized, dark green leaves are three-lobed and barely curved. The stem bay is closed in a V-shape. The blade is serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The cone-shaped to cylindrical grape is medium-sized and has loose berries. The round to slightly elliptical berries are medium to large in size and light red in color.

The Blauer Urban grape variety ripens approx. 20 to 25 days after the Gutedel and is therefore one of the late-ripening varieties in Germany.
