Blue urban

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blauer Urban is a red wine variety that probably comes from southern Germany or South Tyrol. The high-yielding variety was previously widely grown in Germany ( Württemberg ), Austria, Italy, France and Hungary. The variety was often expanded in a mixed set with the Gutedel and Veltliner varieties .

Today there are only small stocks left, for example in the state teaching and research institute for viticulture and fruit growing in Weinsberg . Wineries that are still expanding the Blue Urban are the Graf Adelmann winery in Kleinbottwar and Weinbau Pavillon in Gundelsheim .

There is no evidence of a relationship to the Roter Urban grape variety .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy with white wool, with a crimson tinge. The young leaves are slightly hairy and yellowish in color.
  • The medium-sized dark green leaves are three-lobed or weakly indicated five-lobed. The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The blade is serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is slightly blistered.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium-sized and more or less dense. The round to slightly elliptical berries are medium-sized and dark blue to black-blue in color.

The Blauer Urban grape variety ripens approx. 20-25 days after the Gutedel and is therefore one of the late-ripening varieties in Germany.
