history
The first known documentary mention of Rottershausen comes from the year 1055 as "Rotershusen". The place name changed over time to "Rathershausen" (1202), "Rotershauszen" (1378), "Ratershusen" (1386) and "Rodtershausen" (1686); thereafter the current name "Rottershausen" became common. A town councilor from Münster was probably the namesake of the place, which owned extensive goods in the region; "Rottershausen would therefore mean" the Rathar's houses ".
In 1359, the town came into the possession of the Schultheisen Fritz Schmitt from Schweinfurt and was pledged to the Lords of Münster in 1554 by the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Melchior Zobel von Giebelstadt, together with Rannungen .
At the end of the Thirty Years' War , only about half of the remaining 33 houses were habitable.
From 1670 Rottershausen belonged to the office of Ebenhausen.
The Church of St. Dionysius dates from 1859.
On January 1, 1972, Rottershausen was merged with the municipalities of Ebenhausen , Eltingshausen and Oerlenbach to form the new municipality of Oerlenbach as part of the municipal reform .
