The Rouge River ( French Rivière Rouge ) is a river in Canadian Ontario . It rises in the area of the Oak Ridges Moraine in the municipality of Richmond Hill and flows into Lake Ontario in the urban area of Toronto . At the mouth of the river is Rouge Beach, named after the river . The river also flows through the town of Markham . It has a catchment area of 337 square kilometers. On the southern course of the river, in addition to the Toronto Zoo, there is also the Rouge National Urban Park .
