history

Roy was officially recognized as a local authority on January 16, 1908 . It's a rural town outside of Tacoma with mostly ranch-style farms and houses. Roy was one of the early settlements in the area, a prosperous city and an important railroad stop. But three events made the former boom town today's Roy. A major fire wiped out most of the downtown shops in 1929, just before the Great Depression began. The railway stopped the operation of the main stop. The US Army annexed most of the land north and west of Roy, so that expansion and the local tax base were limited; in addition, the nearby community of Loveland was devastated.

The main attraction in Roy is the Roy Pioneer Rodeo , which attracts participants and spectators from many states and Canada.
