Roy Ravana Junior

Roy Ravana Junior (born November 4, 1993 in Suva , † June 9, 2014 in Fruitridge , Sacramento County , California , United States ) was a Fijian athlete .

Ravana made his debut as a sprinter at the renowned Marist Brothers High School in Suva . He then took part for the Fiji Islands on September 9, 2011 in the 4-by-100-meter relay at the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea . A year later he started at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul over 60 meters and in the same year took part in the Junior World Championships in Barcelona for his home country . One of his greatest successes was a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2011 Pacific Games . In 2012 he took part for the Fiji Islands over 60 m in the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2012 , where he was eliminated as the fifth of his heat.

Ravana studied at Iowa Central Community College from 2012 until his death and was active for the college on the track and field team. In addition, he played since September 2012 as the winger of the Sacramento Lions Rugby Club. In spring 2014, he enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette , where he wanted to study economics.

Ravana died on June 9, 2014 in a drive-by shoot during a training run with sprinter Kevin Ohta in Sacramento County . The two sprinters were attacked by two young people aged 16 and 17 who were acting on behalf of the notorious Norteno street gang. Both suspects were brought before the Sacramento County Superior Court by the district attorney on charges of murder and attempted adult criminal murder.
