Roy Seawright
Roy W. Seawright (* 19th November 1905 in Los Angeles County , California ; † 30th April 1991 in Torrance , California) was an American special effects artist , who from 1940 to 1942 three times for the Oscar in the category Best Special Effects , now Best visual effects was nominated.
Life
His father was the chief architect of Hal Roachs Culver City Studios . He died in 1919 in an accident while building the complex. Roy Seawright began working as an errand boy in the said studio in 1920, later working in property management. In 1927 he became head of the Roach Animation Department . His animations have been shown in many Riach studio short films, for example in the 1934 film Revenge is Sweet , he drew a stop-motion animation sequence in which he made toy soldiers march.
In 1937 he worked as the head of the litigation department for the film Topper goes on the road , for which he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Special Effects in 1940 . In 1940 he was responsible for the photographic effects of the film Tumak, the lord of the jungle . For the film, he animated dinosaurs that were used in many other Hal Roach Studios films. For this film and the sequel to Topper goes on a journey , Topper 2 - The Ghost Castle , it was nominated two more times for an Oscar.
During World War II, he became a major in the United States Army Air Forces . He was commissioned by their film production company First Motion Picture Unit to produce special effects for military training films. He left Hal Roach after returning from the army and then worked for Eagle-Lion Films . In the 1950s, archival footage of Seawright's dinosaur animation was used in films such as Jungle Manhunt , Teenage Cave Man, and Ghost Diver . He died in 1991 at the age of 85.
