The former administrative headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow is a commercial building. In 1966 it was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

In 1927 the Royal Bank of Scotland had this building set up its administrative headquarters in Glasgow on Exchange Square . The Scottish architect Archibald Elliot is responsible for the design . In 1851, the building was expanded backwards by adding 92-100 Buchanan Street by Charles Wilson . The counter hall was redesigned in 1873 by Peddie & Kinnear . Before 1947 the building was redesigned. The interior was modernized in 1968.

Together with the flanking rows of buildings 1-40 Royal Exchange Square and the centrally located Gallery of Modern Art , the former Royal Bank of Scotland depicts all the buildings along the Royal Exchange Square in the center of Glasgow. The masonry consists of light sandstone blocks . The east-facing front facade of the classicist building is seven axes wide. An Ionic portico with a triangular gable emerges. Ionic pilasters stretch along its edges and along the edges of the building . The entrance area is accessible via a nine-step front staircase. Simple cornices on consoles crown the elongated windows and the entrance portal. Richly ornamented arches span the passageways between the Royal Bank of Scotland and the surrounding buildings.
