Ruby R. Levitt

Ruby R. Levitt (born September 12, 1907 , † January 18, 1992 in Encino , California ) was an American production designer .

Life

Levitt began her career in 1946. Her first film was one of the Abbott and Costello - comedy film The Time of Their Lives , 1948, she turned to Max Ophuls Letter from an Unknown . During the 1950s she worked with Jack Arnold several times , including his B-movie classic Tarantula . In 1959 she was first nominated for an Oscar for her work in the Rock Hudson comedy film Bettgeflüster . She also worked for television in the 1960s ; between 1961 and 1966 she worked on 93 episodes of the television series Mr. Ed with, she was also responsible for the production design of the series The Addams Family from 1964 to 1966 . In 1966 she was for Robert Wise's musical The Sound of Music - my dreams for the second time for an Oscar nomination . She received other nominations for Robert Wises Andromeda - Deadly Dust from Space and Roman Polański's Chinatown , but she never received the award. In 1980 she retired from the film business.
