Rudolf "Rudi" Dietrich (born August 13, 1929 in Innsbruck ; † September 11, 2004 in Seefeld in Tyrol ) was an Austrian ski jumper . He took part in the 1952 Olympic Winter Games and was able to win several FIS competitions.

Career

Dietrich learned to ski as a child and began ski jumping at the age of 15 after the end of the Second World War . After finishing school, he trained as a master chimney sweep , which is why he was never able to concentrate entirely on sport. At the end of the 1940s he succeeded in joining the Austrian leadership. In February 1950 he became Austrian ski jumping champion in Bad Aussee and in March of the same year he won the inaugural competition on the newly built ski jumping hill at Kulm with a width of 103.0 meters . He also won the FIS jumping competitions on the normal hills in Mutters and Zell am Ziller this winteras well as on the large hill on Bergisel . In the winter of 1951, he took third place in ski flying on the Kulm. In February 1952 Dietrich took part in the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo , where he finished 21st as the second best Austrian with jumps on 63.0 and 62.5 m. In January 1953 he started the first Four Hills Tournament , in which he finished 15th overall. His best individual result was a 15th place on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In February 1953 he won the FIS jumping also in Garmisch. At the Four Hills Tournament in 1953/54 his best result was again a 15th place, this time on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf . However, he was missing from the jumping in Garmisch, which is why he did not make it into the overall ranking. For the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun , Sweden , he could not qualify within the Austrian team. Due to his professional responsibilities, Dietrich found less and less time for sport, which is why he ended his career after the 1954/55 season at the age of 25. In the following years he still operated motorcycle racing and was able to win several hill climbs.
